Almost every single day there’s an innovator/innovation or an inventor/invention coming out of Africa. Within the many African creators/creations in existence, there are some worth highlighting and shedding light on. The following are 10 of them that were written and spoken about for January 2019. Enjoy African innovations at their finest!

I-CUT is an anti-female genital mutilation application that connects girls in Kenya to medical and legal assistant for this particular health-related issue. The app was created and founded by 5 Kenyan teenaged girls. Their innovative app is helping to improve health of females and has won the African of the Year Award 2019.

CYPRUS45FACTORY recycles old tires and turns them into nice furniture for consumers to buy in Nigeria. This furniture company was founded and established by Olabanke Banjo of Nigeria. Her innovative products are helping to create an eco-friendly environment and produce furniture for both commercial and residential purposes as well.

FAMILOV is an online platform that enables people from various parts of the world (outside of Africa) to buy products & services through certain supermarket chains in Cameroon, which are then delivered to local beneficiary within 36 hours. This platform was founded and established by Lydie Idel Makamdem Tchidjo of Germany-Cameroon. Her innovative platform is making it possible for people living abroad to purchase goods and services online for family and friends back home in Africa.

FLUTTERWAVE a mobile application from Nigeria that allows Visa cardholders in Africa (Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, etc.) to send and receive money home & abroad. It also allows non-cardholders to create a virtual card via the app. Their innovative app is making it easier for Africans to send and receive online payments inside and outside of Africa.

GREEN PLASTIC collects plastic bags, bottles and wrappers, shreds them in a machine, and transforms them into roof tiles and other recycled goods. This manufacturer was founded and established by Ahmed Abdullah and co-founder(s) of Somalia. His innovative products are helping to create an eco-friendly environment and manufacture tiles and goods for everyday needs as well.

PUBLISEER is a digital publishing platform that allows African artist of various talents to publish, promote, protect and monetize their body of work to the masses in Africa and elsewhere free of charge. This publisher was co-founded and established by Chidi Nwaogu & Chika Nwaogu of Nigeria. Their innovative platform is making it free and easy for authors and artist in Africa to publish their content everywhere books and music are sold online.

RED CUP VILLAGE uses 3D printing to manufacture drinking cups that are made from sugarcane and cornstarch. This cup manufacturer was founded and established by Luvuyo Ndiki of South Africa. His innovative 3D printing is making it possible to use natural resources to produce cups for both personal and business needs.

REMITFUND is a concept that uses remittances as an investment fund for the African Diaspora to explore & participate in African Continetal businesses, especially those interested in agribusiness & clean energy industries. This investment fund was founded and established by Grace Camara of Belgium. Her innovative fund is helping to give Africans living abroad a chance to invest in Africa remotely.

SHIRI is a web application that helps Zimbabwean farmers manage their food production and reduce food shortage in efficient and effective ways and means. This website was founded and established by Tatenda Ndambakuwa of Zimbabwe. Her innovative platform is making it possible for hunger to be less of an issue in Zimbabwe and elsewhere too.

SOLARPAK is a school backpack with solar panel and lamp primarily for youth living in areas off-the-grid, which enables them to read and write at home during dark nights. This backpack was founded and invented by Evariste Akoumian of Ivory Coast. His innovate invention is making it possible for school children in Africa to do their homework at night.
